Pakistan's Internal Sectarian War Continues
Pakistan's Sectarian Killers Operate with Impunity -- Time
It began as an ordinary journey, but ended in a bloody storm of sectarian terror. On Monday, 40 Shi'ite pilgrims from the ethnic Hazara community boarded a bus bound for Iran, planning to pay homage at shrines of their revered saints. Near the town of Mastung, in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province, the bus juddered to a halt when a pickup truck swerved in front of it, blocking its path. The bus driver later told reporters that a second pickup pulled up alongside, and men bearing rocket launchers and automatic rifles leapt from both vehicles.

Armed Forces face "significant shortage"
The suspension and cancellation of a number of key armoured vehicle projects since the 1998 defence review has resulted in the Armed Forces facing a significant shortage in the principal armoured vehicles they require, until at least 2024-2025.
Today's National Audit Office report found that the Department's standard acquisition process has been undermined by a combination of over-ambitious requirements and unstable financial planning. Despite the commitment of considerable resources, since 1998, the MOD has received only a fraction of the armoured vehicles it has set out to buy through its standard acquisition process.

FIFA bans Iraq from playing at home
Iraq will have to play all home matches on neutral territory indefinitely after FIFA slapped them with a ban on Friday.
FIFA's ban comes in the wake of general security concerns in Iraq's last home game against Jordan on September 2, with a letter from the governing body to the Iraq Football Association emphasising that the security plan of the Franco Hariri Stadium did not meet "the structural, technical, organisational and operational requirement specified in FIFA regulations."
The Gulf nation will now have to nominate a neutral venue for the remaining 2014 World Cup qualifiers and 2012 Olympic qualifiers that are scheduled as 'home' fixtures, by October 1 and 3 respectively, as announced on FIFA.com.
Iraq are currently third in Group A of the 2014 Wo [...]

"If the Red Sox and the Braves continue their descents, this September could produce two historic collapses. Chart: The Nature And Number Of U.S. Troops Wounded In Afghanistan
Chart Of The Week -- Time
I thought it might have been Wednesday's, where I plotted the amazing growth in U.S. air drops into Afghanistan over the past several years. Then this one stopped me cold. It's in the Army's just-released study into the nature and number of U.S. troops wounded in Afghanistan, conducted by the Army's Dismounted Complex Blast Injury Task Force. KIA means killed in action; DOW means died of wounds; WIA means wounded in action.

Neymar does not want to play in Europe
Hot transfer target Neymar has committed himself to the Copa Libertadores champions though there are rumors that Real Madrid have initiated procedures to sign him, however his agent reveals the Spanish side are intent on signing the striker during the summer transfer window. Madrid has reportedly sent out the best of their agents to try and sign the player. However, things could turn out the other way for them, as the striker has already reiterated that he would not fancy a move to Europe any time soon.
The striker currently has his sights set on playing for Santos in the Club World Cup, and nothing else. Though Barcelona are also rumored to be interested in signing the player, their interest is not as demanding as their rivals, and they seem to be more focused on nailing the likes of Fabregas and Sanchez. However, Barcelona are willing to pay the release clause, and let the player play in brazil for another year, while Madrid want the player immediately.

Al-Jazeera chief slams Maradona
Al-Jazeera director Andre Wetzel believes that the appointment of Al-Wasl coach Diego Maradona was a marketing strategy which made no sense football-wise.
The Argentian legend began his stint as Al-Wasl coach with a 4-3 loss to reigning champions Al-Jazeera last Thursday, courtesy of an injury time winner from Brazilian striker Bare.
Maradona caught the attention on the sidelines during that match, arguing with the match officials, screaming out in jubilation when his side equalised and even juggling the ball to entertain the crowd.
Wetzel was understandably upset with the opposition coach, who arrived 20 minutes late for the post-match conference and blamed the organisers for it.

1. Since the spring of 1994, lawyers and journalists have named the Vancouver Club as a site where children are routinely trafficked, exploited sexually and possibly killed. These crimes were documented, including with photographic proof, by Vancouver trial lawyer Jack Cram and his assistant Renate Andres-Auger, during 1994. Both of these lawyers attempted to bring a lawsuit against two Supreme Court judges in Vancouver for their proven complicity in this alleged pedophile ring, in April of 1994. Obama at the United Nations: The Arrogant Voice of Imperialism
Global Research
Bill Van Auken
President Obama delivered an empty and arrogant sermon to the United Nations Wednesday, laced with platitudes about "peace" that were designed to mask Washington's predatory policies.
The American president received a tepid response from the assembled heads of state, foreign ministers and UN delegates. Not a single line in his speech evoked applause. The novelty of two years ago, when Obama made his first appearance before the body posing as the champion of multilateral-ism in contrast to Bush, has long since worn off. As the world quickly learned, changing the occupant of the White House did little to shift the direction of American foreign policy or curb the spread of American militarism.
The immediate purpose of Obama's 47-minute address was to supplement a behind-the-scenes campaign of bullying and intimidation aimed at forcing the Palestinian Authority to drop its plan to seek a UN Security Council vote on recognition of Palestine as a sovereign member state.
Washington has vowed to veto any bid for Palestinian statehood if it comes to the Security Council, a move that would only underscore the real character of US imperialist policy in the Middle East and the hypocrisy of its claims to identify with the revolutionary upheavals of the Arab masses.
The speech and Obama's defense of the veto threat served to accomplish the same p [...]

Man Utd's O'Shea moving to Sunderland
They are not rumors anymore. Manchester United defender John O'Shea is undergoing a medical at Sunderland. The 30-year-old travelled to Wearside on Thursday morning after team-mate Wes Brown had a medical at the club on Wednesday night. The Black Cats had a joint bid of more than £12m for the pair, plus midfielder Darron Gibson, accepted in June. Boss Steve Bruce has been busy this summer, having already made six summer signings, including Seb Larsson and Craig Gardner from Birmingham.
Former United defender Bruce has also snapped up goalkeeper Keiren Westwood from Coventry, South Korean striker Ji Dong-won from Chunnam Dragons, forward Connor Wickham from Ipswich and agreed a permanent deal for Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady, who was on loan at the Stadium of Light last season.
Brown, 31, and O'Shea would add experience to a Sunderland defense that was terribly affected by injuries last season. 23 year old Gibson is seriously considering a move to the north east bu [...]

Bradley signs Egypt deal
Former USA coach Bob Bradley on Thursday put pen to paper on a deal to coach Egypt with the aim of taking the Pharoahs to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ finals in Brazil.
Bradley, 53, takes over from Hassan Shehata who led Egypt to three CAF Africa Cup of Nations titles, but failed to qualify them for the 2012 edition in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon after seven years in charge of the team.
The American, who himself was dismissed as USA coach in July after more than four years in charge, has been charged with the daunting task of rebuilding the Egyptian squad and end the country's two-decade long wait for an appearance at the FIFA World Cup™.

What should the Republicans do about their problem with boos?
That was ugly! TPM leans heavily on the GOP for the sounds that emanate from various audiences. There was the booing of the solder and...
... On Sept. 7, the biggest applause line of the night went to the then-234 executions that had occurred during Rick Perry's time as governor. At the CNN/Tea Party Express debate a few days later, members of the audience voiced their support for letting an uninsured man die.Settling in to write this post, I said out loud: "The Republicans need to get their audiences under control." And Meade said:
"No, they don't. They're the party of free speech. Anyone can come in and say what they want to say. It's just like your blog. You're not responsible for what people say in the comments."There's no real way to control the audience, other than to strictly limit who gets in, which will look repressive and cowardly. And who knows who is booing or applauding in this way that's harmful to the Republican cause? It could just as well be somebody who hates the GOP, trying to generate bad press and distract attention from what the candidates actually say.
The booing in that clip above comes from one very loud guy. Maybe he could be identified. I'd like to know whether he's on the Republican side or he's a dirty trickster. Am I being repressive to suggest that audience members at the next debate ought to pay attention in the future and look when somebody boos or applauds in this way that is useful to Republican opponents?
I don't think so. I think it's similar to going to a protest and photographing people with offensive signs. Let's say someone who hates the Tea Party is thinking of go [...]

I'm back - for now
This has been a very busy week for the Walton Graduate School of Business. While I was out running around in three different states, my colleagues have been hosting a group of visiting Panamanians. Our visitors have had a fun-filled, jam-packed schedule that included: the Arkansas World Trade Center, Pinnacle Mall, Walmart Distribution Center, a visit to Sam Walton's first store in Bentonville, a networking event, lunch with current Walton MBA students, a trip to Eureka Springs, a visit to Procter and Gamble, and a trip to our RFID lab, just to name a few of the items on their agenda.
My week included a trip to Missouri State University in Springfield on Tuesday, Tulsa University on Wednesday, and then Oklahoma State University on Thursday. I met many wonderful new prospective students. It is important that our students come from many different institutions and have a variety of academic majors. This adds to the experience of everyone in the program.
Monday is our MBA admissions committee meeting. We currently have about 20 students in the class and we are hoping for a class of 40. We'll continue to accept applications through November as space is available. I'll post the results of the meeting on Tuesday and on Monday afternoon, I will email the students the committee's decisions.
Tomorrow the Razorbacks face a daunting challenge. We are going up against #3 Alabama (AP Poll). Last year this game was played in Fayetteville. Alabama was then #1 and we were #10. It was the first time 2 top 10 teams had played in Fayetteville since the 60's or 70's. It was insa [...]

Unlike in past years, however, Arab states did not push for a resolution directly targeting Israel as a threat to Middle East peace.
